Dana Point has 35,000 residents and is blessed with nearly seven miles of high coastal bluffs and gently rolling hills facing the Pacific Ocean.

Make a reservation and you can usually get a perfect window table overlooking Dana Point Harbor at either Cannons Restaurant or The Chart House. Cannons even has a live web cam view of Dana Point Harbor. For an exquisite place to stay high on a bluff over the harbor, choose the Blue Lantern Inn.
The official city web site says, “Most noteworthy of these bluffs is a unique promontory known as the ‘Headlands’ which overlooks Dana Point Harbor, one of the most significant man-made alterations of the Orange County coastline.
“Dana Point Harbor provides slips and mooring for over 2,500 boats along with over 50 specialty shops and restaurants. The Harbor attracts thousands of visitors annually for shopping, sportfishing, walking, bicycling, parasailing and a host of recreational activities,” (including whale watching.)
The Dana Point Harbor is also considered the gateway to Doheny State Park, one of California’s most popular beach facilities. The 62-acre State Park offers camping, picnicking, swimming, surfing, bicycling, tide pool exploration and more.”
Doheny State Park has wide, safe beaches. In the far background is the “headlands,” a great cliff overlooking the harbor and the open ocean.
There is a high demand for homes here since few more can be built and few buildable lots remain in the median price range, which is $402,000 for South Orange County.
